Research Framework

1. Mission

GenomeByte is a mission driven platform dedicated to advancing Microbiology research. Our objective is to enable rigorous, transparent, and reproducible research in alignment with public-interest and scholarly norms. We support publicly funded projects and operate under standard academic collaboration frameworks, prioritising scientific contribution over data ownership.

2. Open Science

We are committed to the principles of Open Research and Open Science. In practice, this means:

  • Supporting dissemination of results through peer-reviewed publications, preprints, and open repositories where appropriate.

  • Designing analytical workflows that are transparent, reproducible, and auditable.

  • Ensuring that research outputs remain compatible with funder Open Access and Open Data requirements.

3. FAIR Data Stewardship

All data processed within academic collaborations are handled according to the FAIR principles:

  • Findable: Structured metadata and clear documentation.

  • Accessible: Compatibility with institutional and public repositories.

  • Interoperable: Use of recognised data standards where applicable.

  • Reusable: Sufficient annotation and provenance tracking.

4. Research Integrity and Ethics

We align our practices with internationally recognised research integrity frameworks, including:

  • The European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (ALLEA)

  • The Concordat to Support Research Integrity (UK)

  • Guidance from the UK Research Integrity Office (UKRIO)

All research activities are conducted adhering to Good Scientific Practice and principles of Academic Integrity.

5. Intellectual Property and Publication

  • Data, results, and foreground IP generated within funded projects are governed by the host institution and funder agreements.

  • We do not assert ownership over academic research outputs unless explicitly agreed in advance.

  • Publication and dissemination are prioritised over restrictive commercialisation.

6. Responsible Use of Advanced Analytics and AI

Where machine learning or advanced computational methods are used:

  • Models are applied proportionately to the scientific question.

  • Data minimisation and privacy safeguards are enforced.

  • Methods are documented to enable interpretation and reproducibility.

7. Transparency and Accountability

We provide research collaborators with:

  • Clear descriptions of analytical methods.

  • Documentation suitable for grant audits and reporting.

  • Technical reports aligned with project milestones and deliverables.

GenomeByte affirms its commitment to advancing Life Science Research through ethical collaboration, open methodology, and responsible data stewardship, with regular review to maintain alignment with evolving funder policies and international research integrity standards.
